“Managing Evaluations”; three-day residential skills development program for academia and development professionals was successfully held from 19th to 21st August 2019 at Citrus Hotel, Waskaduwa. 

The training program was organized by Center for Evaluation (CFE), University of Sri Jayewardenepura in collaboration with USAID’s Strengthening Democratic Governance and Accountability Project (SDGAP). University academic professionals and higher level public sector officers, health sector officials participated in the event.

The program was conducted by Mr. Kieron Crawley, Senior Lecturer at University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. He is an expert in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, Managing for Development Results, and Communication.

This training program was specially designed by Mr. Kieron Crawley for the Sri Lankan context of Monitoring and Evaluation. The participant group was specially selected targeting the dedicated people in their professions and development sectors. As Prof. Kumudu Wijewardene mentioned these group will be a resource pool for upcoming district and provincial level trainings.

Hon. Ananda Kumarasiri, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge, Vice Chancellor of University of Sri Jayewardenepura participated in the inauguration session as the chief guests. As Hon. Deputy Speaker mentioned, National Evaluation Bill will be accepted by the parliament within next few months and need of evaluation professionals will be crucial with the bill. Accordingly, Prof. Sampath Amaratunge promised to support for this cause with the support of CFE and University of Sri Jayweardenepura.

As mentioned above, the ultimate target of the training program was to create professionals in different areas who appreciate the importance of Evaluation in informing development decision making. So CFE is hoping to continue this training programs at National, Provincial and District level.
